First of all, I didn’t blog last nite, thinking that I would remember everything, but already I am having a hard time remembering what I did. So, I am going to try to do every day! Because I am here on my own, unless I have a very arranged schedule for the evening, I usually am going to end up at home when it is dark (7pm) giving me lots of time to write! Lucky you! Lol.
So yesterday, Henry came to pick me up at 930am (actually, to be honest he was here at 9:20!! Impressive eh?). Anyways, we headed down to Indulge (my favourite Mzungu restaurant). I ordered a Mango-banana smoothie and Henry and I took some time to check our emails. Once that was done we got down to business. Our purpose for this meeting was to talk about Sanctuary stuff. The future, goals, etc. After about 3 hours we both realized we should grab some lunch before we continued. Why do I love Indulge so much? Well, they have the best sandwiches, drinks (Passionfruit Watermelon), and cookies you can ask for. And all for the low price of 35,000 shillings, which is about $2. Doesn’t get better than that, PLUS they have free wireless internet. Anyways, we continued or talk for atleast another hour, and then both realized that was enough for one day.
I spend the next couple of hours at home, and then I went back to the boys house to meet them after school. I should add now that I just found out that their school days are Mon-Fri 7am-5pm! AND they have school on Sat from 7am-1pm. OH, and if that isn’t enough, the students who are in P7 (like Grade 8 for us), they also have school on Sundays from 2pm-4pm. I know it’s crazy, but it’s true. Anyways, I spent some time with the boys in their home again. They had fun using my camera and making up dance moves which many of them are quite good at! (I will try to post a video when I am feeling patient enough to wait for it to load).
That night I was invited to go to “The Keep” (a local mzungu restaurant that fronts as a restaurant, but is also a charity –Hackers for Charity in the back, where the teach local children how to use computers). Siouxanne (the lady I am staying with) was their feature singer that night, and I thought it would be something fun to attend. I stayed at the boys home until about 7:30, and then a group of them: Henry, Alex and 3 of the boys escorted me to The Keep. It was funny to be walking down the street surrounded by many African boys/men, but it is the safest way, and I appreciated them all taking their time to make sure I got their safely.
The night was very nice. I had the chance to meet different missionary couples who worked in and around Uganda, as well as Siouxanne’s singing was beautiful.
All in all it was a very good day.
