So I think that I must be in a fairly emotional state right now, because everything seems to put me on the verge of tears. I had given up on going to church with any of the boys and had accepted that. This morning I got a call very early from Steven (who was in Masese visiting some relatives) saying that he was going to meet me at my house and go to church with me. Yay! Although part of me wondered if he would actually show up on time…or even at all. The plan was to meet me at 10am…at about 9:40 I get a call that he is here! Please understand how impressive this is! Not just on time, but early!! I most definitely was NOT ready..lol, but I got ready quick! At church we met David and Robert (who went to first service..and then came back for the last ½ of second service..lol). I don’t know how long it will last, but I have to say I do enjoy going to church with them.
Oh, embarrassing moment today in church…so they make this big announcement during church to turn off your cell phones…I had put mine on silent at the start of the service, so I thought I was covered. During the middle of the preaching a phone goes off, very close to where I am sitting. Knowing that my phone is on silent though, I ignore it and assume it is someone elses….until it keeps going and going. And yes my dear friends, it was my phone that was going off…and at this point of time the preacher had stopped preaching and EVERYONE was looking. I can only assume that my face was very red as I pulled out my phone and turned it off (note to self, apparently silent is NOT silent!!! Not time my phone will be turned OFF!). lol. Poor Steven sitting beside me was ducking down in his pew…all I can do is laugh.
After church we went back to the boys house for some lunch, and then Henry, Steven, Mike, Patrick, Alex, Glen (the recent GIVE volunteer from Canada) and I headed out to see the house in Bukaya. This meant taking public transport! (my first time this trip..and Glen’s first time ever!) It may be bumpy and crowded, but it only cost $2.50 to take 5 people there and back! Then we had to take boda’s from the main road out to where the house is. Unfortunately when we got there the lady that we bought it from wasn’t there….so we were able to look around at the property and boys quarters, but didn’t get to see inside the house. I was so thankful to have Glen there because I could not tell for the life of me what the boys where saying/thinking about the house. Thankfully at the end of the trip Alex told us that the boys liked the house. Phew.
I went with Glen to his guest house (which has a pool!) and hung out there for a bit, and then headed home to a spaghetti dinner! Yay…normal food! Lol. Not that I’m complaining, I enjoy Ugandan food too, but having something other than rice and beans or posho and beans is always a treat!
What did I learn today? The silent setting on the phone does NOT actually mean silent!
